The Rhode Island Writing Project has always believed that the best professional development is also personal development! When your High Quality Curriculum just doesn’t satisfy you or your students’ creative appetites, poetry can broaden your culinary/curricular offerings.

In an ever-increasing dehumanizing profession, being a better teacher comes with being a happier human. We are leaning into that this summer with a range of professional development offerings, starting with our Summer Sampler: 3 half-days (9 am–12 pm) in July that you can take individually or as a package of three at a discount.

Poetry A-Verse: Expanding the Poetry Palate

We will start with appetizers (poems to generate excitement at the beginning of a unit, for example), provide a list of delectable entrees (such as using poems as central texts or the basis of a full unit), and end with delicious desserts (wrapping up a unit and/or reflection).

Cost and Professional Learning Units

  • $25 per day or $60 for all three days; PLUs provided
  • $10 per day for pre-service teachers; $30 for all three days
