School Nurse Teacher CGS

School nursing teaching is a specialty with unique requirements that the state of Rhode Island values. Rhode Island continues to employ certified School Nurse Teachers (SNT), and upon successful completion of this program will issue you a certificate in school nurse teaching.

This program will prepare you with clinical as well as teaching and learning competencies. You will be ready to serve as a leader who provides evidence-based health care, health education, and health promotion for an entire school community. You will also be equipped to drive policy change, connect families to community resources, and advocate for healthy school environments.

The application process will begin with you creating an account on the CollegeNET system. With this account you will be able to apply and then log in at any time to see your Activity Log, with your personalized status page.

Admission Requirements

  • graduate application, along with a $50, nonrefundable application fee
  • official undergraduate and graduate transcripts - one copy of all
  • bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • record of past and ongoing academic excellence (ex., a minimum GPA of 3.0)
  • current Rhode Island RN license
  • 3 years of documented experience as a full-time RN (or an individually accepted equivalent)
  • 3 candidate reference forms with three accompanying letters of recommendation
  • performance-based evaluation
